Mozilla Support (SUpport.MOzilla.org or SUMO) periodically deletes inactive SUMO profiles to protect privacy and maintain content integrity. This can happen in two different ways – through Mozilla account (MA) deletion or through SUMO-specific inactivity.
This article explains the difference between the two, what happens to your content, and how to keep your contributor profile active.

How profiles are deleted
There are two ways a SUMO profile may be deleted:
- Mozilla account deletion: Mozilla accounts are removed if they have been inactive for 2 years. If your SUMO profile is linked to a Mozilla account that gets deleted, your SUMO profile will also be removed. Learn more about Mozilla account deletion due to inactivity.
- SUMO-specific profile deletion: SUMO also deletes contributor profiles that have been inactive for 3 years, even if the linked Mozilla account is still active elsewhere (for example, on Sync or Add-ons). This ensures the contributor community and content remain relevant and active.
What happens to your contributions
If your profile is deleted, your helpful content is preserved wherever possible.
Knowledge Base articles
- Your articles will not be deleted.
- If you were the only contributor, the article will be reassigned to Mozilla’s content team.
- If others also contributed, your name will be removed from the list.
Support Forum posts
We review your questions and answers before deleting them:
- Spam or low-value content will be deleted.
- Helpful answers with votes or marked as solutions will be reassigned to a neutral system account (name to be confirmed).
- Questions may be locked, with a note explaining why the profile was removed.
How to keep your profile active
To keep your SUMO profile from being deleted:
- If it's linked to your Mozilla account, sign in at accounts.firefox.com at least once every 2 years.
- If you contribute content to SUMO, sign in and participate at least once every 3 years.
This ensures your profile stays active, and your contributions remain associated with your name.
Summary: Key timeframes
- 2 years of inactivity: Mozilla account may be deleted (includes linked SUMO profile).
- 3 years of inactivity: SUMO profile may be deleted (even if Mozilla account is still active).
- Non-migrated SUMO profiles: Will be deleted automatically, cannot be accessed anymore.
